Our SX-EW plants and heap leach projects range from small test plants to 50,000tpa cathode output. The most common sizes we encounter in copper range from 5,000 to 20,000 TPA cathode. While copper plants are the most common we also design SX plants for purification of nickel and cobalt solutions, for extraction of boron in the purification of lithium brines, scandium recovery and rare earth purification.
Our approach to design starts with confirming the key design requirements with our client. These typically specify plant capacity, location and feed solution characteristics. Using the extraction isotherms developed from test work we determine the number of extraction and stripping stages, and the size of all equipment. When electrowinning is involved, power supply becomes an important consideration so we design the electrical system for the project. Site evaluation is carried out in the early phase of design to assess layout options, ground conditions, ease of construction and logistics for equipment delivery.
